A person who laced candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys both nine and 10.
The defendant was arrested after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She said the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the police again.
She said the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
